Walmart’s biggest celebration for Independence Day was a massive, three-day celebration on Friday and Saturday.
The company announced plans to unveil the brand’s new line of smart home products during the event, with more details to come on Friday.
The company is also set to announce that it will sell a new home automation system called the Kmart Harmony Home, which is based on the Amazon Echo, to retailers.
Walmart is not disclosing how much the Harmony Home will cost.
The Echo and other Alexa devices are already available at select retailers, but Walmart’s announcement was the company’s first to announce a major new device.
Walmart also announced that it would give away $1,000 Amazon gift cards on the occasion of Independence Day.
The big announcement comes just days after Walmart was named the first-ever U.S. company to receive a government-approved Innovation Award.
The award is named for former Walmart CEO Steve Ells, who was instrumental in developing Walmart’s new $1.99 “Amazon gift card” program, which offers retailers an incentive to sell products at reduced prices.
Walmart has been a leader in using Amazon’s Alexa to connect products to customers’ homes.
