The United States is considering sending a drone to Colombia in the wake of the killing of an independent researcher who was murdered, according to an official with direct knowledge of the matter.
The official spoke to The Hill on condition of anonymity in order to discuss classified matters.
The official said that the U:s military is considering the use of a drone for an investigation into the killing and a possible prosecution of the killers.
The U.s government is not known to be considering using such a drone.
The killing of Independent Scientist Jose Luis Castillo Morales-Garcia was the latest in a string of killings of scientists in Colombia that has led the country’s opposition to seek a referendum to allow free elections.
The United Nations has expressed concern about the government’s crackdown on opposition activists.
The Colombian government has called the killings a politically motivated attack.
