A lot of countries are gearing up to prepare for a possible earthquake.
The United States and Canada are preparing to deploy more than 6,000 people to the region and Australia is considering deploying tens of thousands of troops to bolster its defences.
India, too, is preparing for a potential earthquake.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to make a speech on Monday outlining India’s response to the threat of an earthquake, according to the Indian government.
The government is also launching a $2.8 billion programme to help the affected countries prepare.
There are also reports of an agreement between the United States, Canada and India to share data to improve the search and rescue systems.
